The Durango System combines a PEEK OPTIMA® LT1 large footprint interbody spacer with central graft area, a titanium anterior plate and four fixed or variable angle fixation screws. It also includes a onestep cover plate with a secure center set screw to prevent screw back-out. It is the first system on the market to offer multiple plate options; this includes a traditional a zero-profile plate, a full plate, and the first ever half plate, all utilizing alternate screw trajectories for treating more challenging anatomies and optimized patient fit.
The system is indicated to promote fusion for the treatment of degenerative disc disease in L2-S1 through an ALIF procedure. It is approved as a stand-alone cage when used with all four fixation screws.In cases where additional posterior stabilization may be needed, the Durango System can be used with Lanx’s market leading Aspen™ MIS Fusion System, which affixes to the spinous process to provide rigid, posterior fixation as a minimally invasive alternative to pedicle screws.

Porter, MD, neurosurgeon at Barrow Neurosurgical Associates in Phoenix, AZ, performed the one-hundredth implantation. “In my clinical experience, the versatility of the Durango System has enabled a precise, tailored approach to each patient, and has been especially useful when addressing challenging anatomy such as the L5-S1 level,” said Dr. Porter. “While the Durango cage offers excellent fixation on its own, I have had very positive outcomes when using it in conjunction with the Aspen device in my younger, more active patients who may require extra stability.
